Akira Yamada | Ceramic Artist
Born in Kyoto. A contemporary ceramic artist whose symbol is the scarlet "shojohi" (scarlet red). She has actively exhibited her works at exhibitions both in Japan and overseas, challenging herself with diverse forms based on porcelain expressions. She participated in the "Contemporary Craft Art Fair" (Tokyo International Forum) in 2011, "Porcelain Expression - Blue, Red, White -" (Wako Hall / 2012), and "Challenging the Ceramics of a New Era" (Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park / 2013). Since then, she has exhibited at many special exhibitions such as "Kyoyaki Generations Exhibition - Inheritance and Development" (Kyoto City Museum / 2014), "Mayer-Meyer Award: Tradition and Innovation" (Meyer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park / 2016), "Eastern Influences" (Philadelphia / 2017), and "Considering Tiles - From the Perspective of Ceramics" (Tajimi Custom-Tile Museums / 2021), continuously pioneering new frontiers. Her works are housed in the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park and the Kyoto City Museum.
